Citrus 'Meyers Lemon' 3 Litres

£26.99
SKU: 1001407

Citrus Meyers Lemon Tree is a delightful addition to any garden or indoor space in the UK. With its neat, evergreen foliage and incredibly fragrant white flowers, it brings beauty and aroma to any setting. The Meyers Lemon offers a slightly sweeter flavour compared to commercially grown lemons, making it an ideal choice for refreshing cold drinks.

While the tree is active year-round, showcasing flowers, fruitlets, and mature fruits simultaneously, it requires temperatures above 5ºC to thrive. Although it can tolerate occasional drops below freezing for short periods, it is advisable to move potted trees indoors to preferably a greenhouse, conservatory or bright porch. They can be kept on a brightly lit windowsill indoors and turned regularly but they are not fond off central heating.

For optimal growth, plant your Meyers Lemon in an unglazed terracotta pot placed in a sheltered and sunny location, such as in front of a south- or west-facing wall. These trees thrive in high humidity, so watering once a week during the summer with rainwater, if available, is beneficial. Reduce watering in the winter and allow the top layer of soil to slightly dry out before watering during the winter months.

To promote healthy growth and fruit production, feed your Citrus Meyers Lemon tree with citrus-specific summer feed starting from when the clocks go forward. Continue with regular feedings throughout the summer season. As the clocks go back in autumn, switch to a monthly citrus winter feed.

Prune the tree in spring, thinning out the center to promote light and air circulation, and remove any branches that appear dried, thin, or lacking vigour. Trim the tree again in September to maintain the desired size. Pruning encourages more flowers and fruit production on the remaining, stronger branches.

Although not the simplest plants to look after it is very rewarding to sit with a G & T featuring home grown lemons or a delicious slice of lemon drizzle cake!
