Cyathea cooperi 120cm 10 Litres
Cyathea cooperi or the 'Lacy Tree Fern' is a stunning and fast-growing tree fern that originates from New South Wales and Queensland in Australia. The fronds of the C. cooperi can reach an impressive length of 4 metres in maturity, and the slender trunk can grow up to 3 metres in height. This ornamental tree fern is an excellent addition to larger conservatories or greenhouses, with new fronds having white scaly stalks, which add to the plant's unique features.
As a greenhouse plant, it's essential to note that C. cooperi, are not hardy outdoors. Unlike the Australian and New Zealand tree fern, Dicksonia antarctica, C. cooperi won't regrow its fronds from the crown of the trunk if frosted or blown away in the winter. Therefore, it's crucial to maintain suitable greenhouse conditions, which include creating a shady, damp, and humid environment with regular misting and watering of the trunk and leaves.
For large containers, the ideal soil mixture for C. cooperi should be a combination of loam, sharp sand, and leaf mould, which mimics the plant's natural habitat. Additionally, monthly application of liquid fertiliser can help speed up trunk growth and promote the development of giant fronds.
Overall, C. cooperi is a fast-growing and ultimately large tree fern with narrow trunks and magnificent fronds that can grow over 3 metres long. It's relatively easy to grow as long as it's kept above 0 degrees centigrade during the winter.
