Cornus (Dogwoods) are hardy deciduous shrubs with showy winter stems offering year round interest. Cornus sericea flaviramea has an RHS Award of Garden Merit. It forms thickets of greenish-yellow stems which turn brightest in winter. Small summer flowers loved by butterflies are follwed by white berries loved by birds along with orange-red autumn leaf colour. Once established cut back the oldest one third of stems hard in late winter every year. looks particulalry good with spring bulbs planted underneath.
