Veronica repens, commonly known as creeping speedwell, is a low-growing, mat-forming perennial plant that is native to Europe and western Asia. It is valued for its attractive blue-violet flowers, which bloom in late spring to early summer.
The plant has small, glossy, dark green leaves that are arranged in opposite pairs along its trailing stems, which can reach up to 30cm in length. The stems root at the nodes, allowing the plant to spread and form a dense mat-like ground cover.
The flowers of Veronica repens are produced in clusters along the stems and are a beautiful blue-violet colour. They are small and tubular in shape, with four petals and a white center. The flowers are attractive to pollinators such as bees and butterflies and can bloom for several weeks. It is a hardy plant that prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. It is drought-tolerant and can grow in a range of soil types.
